位于香格里拉至乡城公路103公里处、格咱乡小雪山山脚。峡谷景观曾经震撼了许多光临之人，中国、瑞典植物考察团称叹碧壤峡谷是个“奇峡”。此峡谷深而窄，壁高1000多米，最宽处约80米，最窄处仅10余米，可谓“一线中分天作堑，两山峡斗石为门”。碧让河水从切割深度为1000—2000米深的碧壤峡谷中冲出，在2.5公里长的悬岩绝壁间，形成汹涌的激流、轰鸣的声响。深峡激流又笼罩在水雾云雾中，显得幽深神秘，犹如深藏于世外的“仙境”，只不过这“仙境”在朦胧中分明又是一种富于传奇色彩的惊险奇境，仿佛是探险者和江湖游侠隐居之地。 　
碧壤峡谷直耸云天的绝壁上，分布着岩画，那各种各样的图形，至今人们还未能探究清楚其表达的意义。根据其较为粗犷的轮廓和模糊的印迹，有关专家考证为古代迁徒民族留下的符号，其营造下的某种文化氛围，使峡谷凭添了几分悠久古朴的人文意蕴。 　
峡底的参天古木仿佛已经和涌流绝壁融为一体，显示出强大的生命力。当幽深的峡谷突然开阔起来时，莽莽林海、青青草场就铺展在了眼前。那林海是至今保存完好的原始森林，在峡谷中跋涉了许久，再进入这种未经人类斧锯侵扰和自然条件恶劣的古森林怀抱，会觉得真正地回归自然了。 　
因藏民们用歌舞留佛而著名于世的赤土仙人洞就在这里。传说，当年不遵师命强行开洞门的藏传佛教弟子喜洛桑波，为了留住洞内因洞门早开而欲离去的菩萨，带领许多信徒在洞前跳起了锅庄舞，终于留住了菩萨。从此，阴历十二月十五日这天就成滇川藏族在仙人洞前聚会歌舞的节日，优美的歌声此起彼伏回荡在碧壤峡谷。
