Cathedral close: Cathedral旁的草地原是墓地. 人们要葬在这里要付款给Cathedral. 但草地面积有限,只有向上堆, 形成人叠人 (在亚洲, 有谁会用这样的埋葬方式?). 据说, 土堆高约一人高, 到Cathedral得窗下. 所以, 墓地要搬到城外. 当然, 原本已葬下的也要搬走. 在过去的历史里, Cathedral是不断改建, 甚至是大改. 例如由Norman式(较为笨重)变为Gothic哥德式(尖顶). 但Cathedral两翼的高楼就保留了Norman式(圆拱形窗). Cathedral前原有另一座教堂, 在战后拆了(好像是火灾). 而在清拆那座教堂的时候, 就挖出了罗马人的浴场遗址. Cathedral正面有很多浮雕, 分三层(圣人, 国王, angel). 据图, 浮雕古时是彩色. 正门最高处却有一个露体男性现代雕像. 2. bishop’s palace garden (Cathedral close no.10 and 11) 如果不说, 或许你经过了, 也没注意到. 古老的木门雕刻精美, 花园细小,没多少看的, 只是感受一下. 3. parliament street: 据说是世上最窄的巷子. 4. waterbeer street: 古时selling water and bear 5. an old medieval house at north street: 一场火灾之后, 除了这屋, 其他旧木屋都烧了. 也因此, 人们发现了木墙上那些被灰尘封盖了的图案. 现在, 这是一间隐蔽的餐馆. 不带你去, 你很难发现. 6. st Nicholas priory 7. stepcote street: 古时, 这是最主要的通道, steep and stone paved 8. the house that moved 19??年, 因为兴建城市绕道, 房屋整座平移. 9. medieval exe bridge the remained ruin on bridge is an old church. You will notice there are so many churches in such a small district around the Cathedral.Main points: 1. Cathedral close. 2.
